Kerry Knowles commenced on the TAS Committee in 1998 as Secretary, retiring following the 169th Toodyay Agricultural Show in 2023. Over her years with the Committee Kerry has also been Treasurer, Vice President, President and Food Van/Catering Coordinator. She was honoured to receive Life Membership in 2017. Kerry shares her Show Day highlights…
Arriving at the grounds on Show Day as the sun rises, sometimes with mist rising off the river, and enjoying the quiet before everything and everyone arrives. Sometimes there are the sounds of a rooster crowing or a horse neighing as they are already on the grounds. Lots of things are set up ready to go, just standing quietly waiting……and within an hour the whole world has changed and it’s all busy with people, animals, trucks, cars, displays, noise, and movement as the show unfolds. And then at the end of the Trophy presentation a soft serve ice cream in the late afternoon sun, and time to reflect on the success of the day (jobs are done!).
